Amplitude is a digital analytics platform that helps companies understand how users engage with their products. Founded by Spenser Skates, Curtis Liu, and Jeffrey Wang, Amplitude enables product teams at companies from startups to Fortune 500s to analyze behavioral data, run experiments, and make faster product decisions. Amplitude went public on NASDAQ in 2021 with a $5B market cap.
When Mighty Capital first engaged with Amplitude, the analytics category appeared not just crowded but structurally dominated. Google Analytics was the incumbent: a free product with near-infinite distribution, backed by one of the most powerful companies in the world. Most investors looked at that dynamic and saw an unwinnable fight. Our network saw something different.
Free products with massive distribution win on reach. They rarely win on depth. Our product practitioners were telling us that product teams at serious companies were hitting the ceiling of what Google Analytics could tell them and adopting Amplitude to fill the gap. That bottom-up migration was invisible in any financial metric, but unmistakable to the 600,000 practitioners living inside it.
Product practitioners migrating away from Google Analytics, a free product with near-infinite distribution, toward Amplitude for depth of behavioral insight. Displacement of a free incumbent is one of the strongest product signals that exists.
Bottom-up adoption by product managers at scale, spreading virally through product teams without top-down procurement, ie a pattern that reliably precedes enterprise dominance
Users integrating Amplitude into daily decision-making processes rather than periodic reporting, which is a retention and switching-cost signal most investors couldn’t read
Amplitude consistently surfaced in Products That Count programming as the analytics standard product leaders recommended to peers
The Mighty Capital network became Amplitude’s buyers. We nominated Amplitude for a Products That Count Product Award — a quarterly recognition reviewed by hundreds of CPOs and product leaders across every major industry, drawn from over 12,000 annual nominations from our community. The nomination alone generated $5M in new revenue and compressed Amplitude’s sales cycle from nine months to six months, a 30% acceleration in sales velocity.
The mechanism was direct: the 600,000 product practitioners in our network are the exact buyers, evaluators, and champions of analytics platforms at their companies. When Amplitude was validated by that community, procurement conversations that would have taken quarters took weeks. Our community became their customers.
