I’m a venture investor and ecosystem builder. My career has focused on helping companies that deliver tip-of-the-spear technology define and shape emerging sectors including security, mobile, cloud, and now AI. As an investor, I’m a General and Founding Partner of Mighty Capital. We leverage the Product Alpha Effect, our data-backed framework for identifying outperformers, and have been recognized on the Kauffman Fellows Top 30 and Power100. We invest in pioneering companies like Amplitude (NASDAQ: AMPL), Netskope (NASDAQ: NTSK), and Groq, and have added over $1B in value to the companies we’ve backed.
That theme started in corporate development, where I spent 20 years fueling growth. I’ve taken a company public and led M&A and strategic partnerships at companies including Certicom, Symbian/Nokia, and Telefonica Digital. The product and partnership initiatives I drove added hundreds of millions in value to these companies, including building a secure e-commerce consortium with MasterCard and the US Treasury, and launching the world’s first mobile VPN product.
I’ve spent the decade since investing in private companies. I built Pointgrey Partners, a family office, where I achieved a 15x cash-on-cash return selecting investments including Roadster, Nexgate, AtVenu, and Tugboat Logic. It was during this time that I met SC Moatti, our Managing Partner at Mighty Capital. She’s an award-winning product visionary who created an ecosystem that helps anyone build great products and reaches 1 in 3 product managers globally. When she suggested we start a venture firm together to capitalize on that network, it made perfect sense because I’d spent my career monetizing ecosystems.
I was raised in the Midwest and have lived, worked, and studied in the US, Canada, London, Geneva, and Vienna. I relocated from Toronto to San Francisco in 1997 to immerse myself in the world’s leading innovation hub and growth engine.
In addition to serving on private and non-profit boards, I recently chaired the Applied Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where I completed my MBA, and continue to serve on the Council. I originally studied engineering as an undergrad in Texas, but I loved my economics class more and completed my B.Sc. in Business.
My family is passionate about supporting philanthropic causes in education, the environment, public health, the arts, and food and housing security. We like to spend our free time in the great outdoors, and preparing my two late-teen kids for their own life adventures.
